Altars or Ofrendas are created to welcome back the souls of deceased loved ones. Decorating a space with the items that they enjoyed before their passing, helps to comfort and refresh their souls after their long journey back to the world of the living. The Day of the Dead is not a sad or solemn event, but rather a celebration of the life that was shared.
